Kolkata: 22.04.2025: SEALDAH division has 60 nos. of stations where passenger loop lines are available. Railway is giving emphasis on upgradation in maintenance of loop lines to enhance safety of trains while passing through them.
Earlier, maintenance of passenger running loops were done manually. Now, maintenance of passenger loops are being done through machines to improve track parameter standards. The work includes machine packing, ballasting, deep screening by ballast cleaning machine (BCM) of plain track/ turn outs, welding of unavoidable rail free joints and ensuring 100% proper fittings, re-spacing of sleepers etc. are the major works included for enhancing the track parameters of passenger running loop lines.
Railway has sanctioned approx. 59 Cr. For up gradations of passenger running loop line for SEALDAH division. Passenger running loop lines of 13 stations (Barrackpore, Baruipur Jn., KrishnaNagar City Jn., Bethuadahari, Chandpara, Deula, Debogram, Ghutiari Sharif, Hotor, Majhdia, Sonarpur Jn., Muragachha, Madhyamgram) have already been covered and by Dec’25 upgradation work of all passenger loop lines will be completed in a mission mode.
SEALDAH division is running approx. 1000 trains on daily basis to carry passengers for their destinations. We are committed for their safe and smooth journey. In this direction, SEALDAH division is taking up major safety related works like elimination of level crossing gates, interlocking of non-interlocking level crossing gates, provision of buzzer in road user signal at LC gates, provision of sliding barriers at LC gates, improving signal visibility, provision of guard repeater signal, elimination of critical mast and leaning mast, vertical fencing at unauthorized trespassing locations, monitoring of yards through CCTV, upgradation of signalling system, upgradation of track by laying thick web switch and weldable CMS crossing. In addition to this to cater human aspects regular counselling, training of railway employee was also done frequently. Counselling of normal passengers and habitants residing nearby track was also done to avoid any unusual occurrences.
These upgrades mark another step toward modernizing the rail network and enhancing the passenger experience. Sealdah Division continues its dedication to better infrastructure, Safety standards and more efficient train operations.
