In an endeavour to facilitate lakhs of commuters with easier access to the platform and to reduce huge congestion in the existing entry/exit gate, Sealdah station is now equipped with another entry/exit gate at Sealdah South Station. The new gate at Sealdah is strategically located to reduce walking distance for passengers in reaching Sealdah station, the busiest transportation hub of the City of Joy.
Augmentation of new entry/exit gate at Sealdah will make it convenient to manage huge crowd, particularly during rush hours and festive season, thereby reducing the risk of stamped like situation. Moreso, it will embolden Sealdah Station authority in faster evacuation of the passengers during emergency situation. Further, new gate will be beneficial from security point of view as it provides additional surveillance points and enhanced monitoring.
The new entry gate through the West Canal Road will enable quick dispersal of the crowd. Passengers coming from Beliaghata Road, Shyambazar or Salt Lake can now proceed to Sealdah station directly from West Canal Road, avoiding the busy APC Road.
The newly constructed entry/ exit gate will be beneficial for 15-18 lakhs passengers to Sealdah Station everyday. The construction work of the new gate has been accomplished by Sealdah Division in record time under the dynamic and inspiring leadership of Shri Deepak Nigam, DRM/Sealdah. Shri Nigam has stated that, “the newly established entry/exit gate will certainly improve overall accessibility and this state-of-the-art passenger amenities at Sealdah Station will in turn stimulate local economic growth”.
