Trespassing on Railway tracks is a menace that poses significant threat to individuals, communities and the Railway operations as a whole. Trespassing is indeed a social evil which causes fatal accidents. Even if accidents are not fatal, they cause severe injuries and disabilities, affecting the entire family of the victims.

Moreover, such foolish and meaningless act cause disruption to Railway Operations, causing delay and cancellation which in turn harass lakhs of daily commuters and Rail users. Moreover, trespassing related accidents can damage Railway infrastructure, leading to increased maintenance costs.

Recent back to back mishaps on account of trespassing on Railway tracks near Sodepur and Champahati have caused severe disruptions to train services, endangering safety of both passengers and trespassers. These incidents have resulted in huge delays in train operations, affecting punctuality and frustrating daily passengers.

Railway authorities are deeply concerned about recurring trespasses incidences. Sealdah Division hereby urges all to refrain from walking on Railway tracks. Trespassing on Railway tracks is illegal and it’s a punishable offence. Those found doing so may face harsh prosecution.

The Railway authorities take this opportunity to remind common people to avail safe alternatives, viz., foot overbridges limited height subways, level crossings.

In order to curb trespassing, Railway authorities have taken several measures to raise awareness including public announcements, posters and pamphlets. Sealdah Divisional authorities are also working with local authorities and community leaders to educate people about the dangers of walking on Railway tracks.

Sri Deepak Nigam, DRM/Sealdah has once again urged common people to use these designated routes to ensure their safety and safety of train operations. Shri Nigam has also urged the public to cooperate in these efforts and refrain from walking on Railway tracks.
